Aligning Materials and Process with Design and Function

The services provided by Applied Piezo Consulting enable our clients to unlock the full potential of piezoelectric materials for specific applications.  With over 30 years experience in piezoelectric ceramic and single crystal process and product development, Applied Piezo Consulting has the necessary expertise to provide immediately actionable recommendations for solutions to your most difficult design and manufacturing challenges.

Our specific expertise includes formulation, properties, processing, and applications of PZT ceramic and Relaxor-Ferroelectric single crystals. Our in-depth application knowledge includes medical ultrasound, SONAR, NDT/NDE,  energy harvesting, and hydrophone transducers; vibration, acoustic, pressure, and flow sensors; and positioning devices such as actuators and ultrasonic motors.

The Applied Piezo Consulting process involves structured discussions to fully understand the problem at hand and solutions attempted.  This is followed by data analysis and technology review of existing products and services relevant to the project and/or of pertinent scientific literature.  Typically these efforts lead to an initial report assessing the problem and possible solutions along with detailed recommendations for next steps.  We then follow-up as the client implements the recommendations to assess data on effectiveness.  This can be used to further optimize or redirect leading to a robust application-specific solution.

Specific services include piezoelectric material formulation and process development, optimized piezoelectric device concept feasibility; material selection for devices and applications; material component vendor assessment and qualification; piezoelectric component design for manufacturing; component process method development; equipment recommendation, specification and qualification; material and device characterization; and root cause analysis.
